Card Validity & Renewal

Medical cannabis cards in Costa Rica are valid for a period of two years. To renew the card, patients must undergo a re-evaluation by a licensed physician and submit a renewal application, which may include another fee similar to the initial application. The renewal process typically takes about 30 days.

Purchase & Possession Limits

Patients registered under the medical cannabis program are allowed to purchase and possess up to 40 grams of cannabis per week. This limit is designed to ensure that patients have adequate access to their medication while preventing abuse of the system.

Allowed Forms

Patients can obtain medical cannabis in various forms, including dried flower, oils, tinctures, and capsules. However, the sale of edibles and concentrates is currently not permitted under the existing regulations.
